SATHKARMA YOGA - FOR PEOPLE WITH FAMILY

-- YOGA OF GOOD ACTIONS
(SATHKARMA YOGA PRAKARANA)

THIS YOGA IS FOR THOSE WHO LIVE WITH FAMILY.
IN THIS CHAPTER AUTHOR EXPLAINS, ACTIONS
CARRIED OUT WITH SELFISH MOTIVE, EXPECTING
DESIRED RESULTS -- ie., KAMYA KARMA ANUSTANA
THIS IS NOT GOOD TO ACHIEVE LIBERATION OR
TO MAKE PROGRESS IN SPIRITUALITY.

HOWEVER BY DOING GOOD DEEDS OF CHARITY &
OFFERING ALL ACTIONS AT THE FEET OF BRAHMAN
ALONG WITH AVERSION, DISPASSION TOWARDS
ENJOYMENTS OF THE WORLD IS SATHKARMA ANUSTANA
THIS SATHKARMA YOGA LEADS TO LIBERATION.
THIS YOGA IS VERY SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE LIVING
WITH FAMILY. AUTHOR EVEN GIVES TIME TABLE
FOR A DAY TO FOLLOW SATHKARMA YOGA.

COMMENTS ON OLD SHASTRA RITUALS LIKE
OBLATION TO FOREFATHERS etc. ARE THE OPINION
OF THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR AVADHUTHA
NISHCHALANANDA, WE HAVE ONLY TRANSLATED IT
FROM KANNADA TO ENGLISH. WE HAVE NO
INTENTION TO HURT THE SENTIMENTS OF PEOPLE
WHO FOLLOW OLD SHASTRA RITUALS WHICH IS
BEING CARRIED OUT GENERATIONS AFTER
GENERATIONS.

RAMANA MAHARSHI ON KARMA

Work done with an attitude of offering to the Lord
and without any expectation helps in purification of
mind and thereby to realization of the Self.

Action can be done through the three instruments
of body, words and mind. The actions done with
the body is inferior to actions performed with words.
Actions performed with the words are inferior to
actions done with the mind. Action done with body
is Pooja or worship, action done with words are
japa or chanting, action done with mind is
meditation or contemplation.

Service of the world is the service of the eight-form
God(The Deity form of the Lord is said to appear in
eight varieties — stone, wood, metal, earth, paint,
sand, the mind or jewels), with the idea and
conviction that everything is God alone.

Meditation or contemplation is superior to both

praises and chanting in loud or low volume.

SATHKARMA YOGA -- FOR PEOPLE WITH FAMILY
(SATHKARMA YOGA PRAKARANA)

Parameshwara teaching Shanmuga

'Parameshwara teaching Shanmuga' postings are based on
'Jnana Sindhu' writings of great CHIDANANDA AVADHUTHA
of very high spiritual level based on VEDANTHA
(UPANISHATHS). He had given the copy of the book to the
parents of a future Avadhutha even before the baby was
born, telling parents Goddess will take birth as their son &
to give the book to the boy when he would be twelve
year old, who is destined to become an Avadhutha by name
AJATHA NAGALINGA SWAMY at NAVALAGUNDHA
in north Karnataka.

Shanmukha told Parameshwara --

Shanmukha with folded hands told, Swami !,You  explained
path of liberation to Yogis who rejected this world as unreal,
but those who live with family, how they can get salvation &
become jeevamukthas, please explain the path they have to
follow.

Parameshwara told Shanmuka--

My Baby !, For Yogis who have dispassion, aversion
towards this world, achieve liberation quickly. Now I shall
explain, path of liberation to those who live with family
as given in vedas.

First I shall tell you about doing actions with selfish motive,
mind concentrated on fruits of action called
"Kamya karma anustana" & in next chapter I shall explain
to you doing good actions called " Sath karma anustana"
Kamya karma is bad. Sath karma is good. Kamya karma
leads to birth, death and sorrow. Sath karma leads to
liberation. In vedas Karmas are divided into 3 types, they
are --
1) Karma
2) Akarma
3) Vkarma

1) Karma means it should be as per method told in vedas.
2) Akarma means actions not being carried out.
3) Vkarma means actions which are against Fate.

Previous births vasanas are called 'Sanchitha'
Prarabdha means enjoying the fruits of actions of previous
births ie.,Sanchitha phala. Actions(Karmas) due to
Sanchitha Phala is the cause for initiation of actions.
People get entrapped in these karmas, under go heaps of
sorrow & if they come across slight happiness, they forget
themselves. By bad intellect, worldly people get attracted
by lust, money etc.,& carry out Kamya Karma, resulting in
repeated births,visiting Swarga,Naraka etc.

"Aputhrasya gathirnasti"(If you don't have a son,you don't
get a place in Swarga) holding on to this weak sentence
of shruthi, getting married, making lust play with wife,
aspiring to get a son, they tire themselves & suffer. wishing
to continue line of family with a son, praying to all types of
Gods, performing 'Putra Kamesti' homas, with great difficulty
get children."By son you get gathi(place in Swarga)" is
height of ignorance. Gathi is by your own actions & how
can it be from others ? Meaning of the word 'Gathi' is
for 'Swarga' only & not for Moksha(Liberation). Enjoyment
of Swarga is temporary & full of jealousy.

Everyone in Satkarma recites first,"Asmakam saha
kutumbanam kshema stairya ayur arogya Lakshmi
praptyartam" meaning ," For our all inclusive family to get
peace,boldness,long life span, health, richness,money"
this way thinking in mind, carrying out actions accordingly
they are entrapped & get tired.

People go to Thirtha Kshethras for the well being of their
Father in the next birth, to be happy, not to be blind, not to
be without legs, they take bath thinking thus in mind & dip
in holy water, bringing sorrow of rebirth to their Father.

Believing dead forefathers will actually come & partake
offerings they bring brahmins for chanting, wear their sacred
threads in reverse order, prepare variety of sweets & feed
them to satisfy brahmins during Shradha. Using til seeds,
darbha grass offer pithru tarpana in flowing river water,
til seeds are eaten by fishes, darbha grass goes away in
flowing water.By this, how dead forefathers get satisfied ?

Even after doing many yagas Swarga(Heaven) has not
been seen , then only by telling during Shradha how
Pithru's can see Swarga(Heaven). It is similar to the saying
that when crab told about the loose character of frog, people
who have assembled there spoiled the water puddle.

If the husband dies wife's head is shaved, what sin wife's
head has committed in the death of husband ? Body &
intellect of a couple are altogether different. If you
analyse who is husband ?, who is wife ? Without knowing
jiva torture is the greatest sin, wife enters pyre of
husband, burning herself goes to Hell only. These are
all due to wrong doing of dull intellect. Shruthis tell
that husband can become son of wife, in subsequent births.

Saying animal sacrifice in yajna(fire sacrifice) has
acceptance in Shruthis & with the intention to go to Heaven,
they torture animals by offering to fire. Due to this sin,
person who wished to go to Heaven will be born as animal
& animal will be born as that man. Even if he goes to
Heaven till punya(fruit of actions of merit) is exhausted,
then he will go to Hell only.

People arrange to dig wells to provide water to poor people,
thinking  they earn punya. If somebody falls to that well
& dies, that sin goes to whom ?A person who aspires to
earn punya should also be ready to earn papa also.
Same thing applies to building temples, growing trees
with the intention to earn punya(sakamana karma meaning
action done with desire for its fruits). It is better to carryout
all actions without any desire for its fruits brings peace, with
desire for its fruits always brings unhappiness.

By taking bath in thirthas(holy water pond) intending to earn
punya, their sins have not reduced.Only dirt of body got
cleaned. A poisonous variety of pumpkin, even if you
wash in any number of thirthas, will its poison go away ?
Same way kamana  karmas(actions with desire) by taking
any number of baths, dirt of the mind will not be cleaned.
By repeated thirtha baths results in fruit of action as loose
motion,cough,breathlessness, phlegm, temperature,
headache & nothing else. This way following desirous shruitis.
taking interest in desirous actions, take repeated births
deaths, go in endless cycles.

My Child ! Just like rows of teeth, there are many actions
with desire(kamya karmas).I mentioned them briefly
You think & decide which of them are best & which of
them are not good, also think such actions result in
what 'gathi' position in Heaven or Hell to the person
who carried out those actions.

Then there comes a time in that kamya karma interested
persons life, due to previous birth good deeds, he starts
taking interest in understanding meaning of Upanishad's
sayings, gets Bhakthi supported by full knowledge, he
sees whole world as Brahman only & starts offering all
his actions to Athma. He sees Brahman in wife, son,
relatives,friends, and all others.

He will perform all worldly rituals like yaga(fire offerings),
thapas(meditation), worship,morning & evening prayers
(sandhya vandana),water oblation(tharpana), homa(fire
offerings for family gains), shraddha, bath, cleanliness of
body, vratha (penance made on particular days), puja to
God -- as an offering to Brahman.

He will give in charity gift(dana) to poor house, land, money,
cloth, cooked rice, education, cow, girl in marriage
(kanya dana). He will build for public utility --
temple,well,pond,temple tower,chathra where free
distribution of food is made, aravattige where free water is
made available to drink, providing comforts for guests,
he will offer all these actions to Brahman.

He will get up in Brahmi Muhurtha(morning 4 to 6 AM)
do meditation, then at sun rise sandhya vandana,he
will eat at noon, then he will study adhyathma(spiritual)
tattva shastras, during sunset do offering of arghya to
sun god, then do puja & sing bhajans to God till late in
night & then go to sleep.

This way doing karmas(actions) everyday & offering all
actions to Brahman, thinking about Athma, Anathma he
will attain liberation.

How image of the face in mirror has no connection with
mirror, same way this Sathkarmi Yogi(yogi of good deeds)
becomes disinterested in family. For onlookers even
though he is seen as family man, actually he is like
reflection of sun in water, Molucca seed(Gajuga seed)
fallen in dry ash, how water does not stick to lotus leaf,
kumbara hula(a type of worm) in mud ie., not getting
influenced by surroundings of family environment.
This Sathkarmi Yogi, being inside family, not affected
by happiness or unhappiness of sexual lust etc., offering
all his actions at the feet of Brahman, he lives happily.

All Shruthis praise karmas(actions) as great. Among
karmas SATHKARMA is the greatest. This is also called
as Thapo Yajna meaning thapas offered to fire as oblation.
Kamya karmas(actions with desire) are explained in
shruthis only to unintelligent dullards & not for good
Jnanis.

Kashyapa,Vasista,Shukra,Agasthya,Brahaspathi,
Paulasthya,Vishvamitra,Jamadagni,etc. sages taught
their disciples Sathkarma Yoga(yoga of good actions),
whole world is interested in karmas(actions) You
cannot leave karmas, karma is  beginning less. Among
karmas Sathkarma is the greatest, to know Brahman,
this is the best path to follow. For those who follow
Nishkama Karma, Karmas will not create problem.
Kamya Karmi gets Heaven(Swarga),whereas
Nishkama Karmi gets liberated(Moksha).

Nishkama Karma is main measuring scale of shruthi.
This path has acceptance of all shastras. By this
Sathkarma Yoga even if liberation is not achieved in
this birth, you will achieve liberation positively in next
birth. This has no bandhana(entrapment),even if
bandhana is seen, it will not bring unhappiness & he
will merge in Athma. This Sathkarma Yogi without
getting interested in family, having aversion, dispassion,
dislike,disgust towards world & its ways,leading family
life, playing with lady of Moksha, he will travel on a
horse of real happiness at high speed.

This way being in family also, getting liberation is one path.
With detachment of every one, by high aversion &
dispassion following Raja Yoga getting liberation is
another path.

My Child ! I explained to you Sathkarma Yoga, you follow
the path which you like best. There are two paths called
ARUDHA & ARURUKSHU. This Sathkarma path is
that of ARURUKSHU.

This knowledge should not be told to bad, low level,
dullards, showyee people. This way Shankara who is
immersed in Happiness, explained path of Liberation to
people living with family, to help people of this world.
On hearing this, Shanmukha attained bliss & praying the
lotus feet of Shankara, sat in meditation.

WORSHIP OF BRAHMAN WITH & WITHOUT ATTRIBUTES

SAGUNA, NIRGUNA BRAHMOPASANA PRAKARANA

END RESULT OF BOTH WORSHIPS IS SAME.
HOWEVER WORSHIP WITHOUT ATTRIBUTES
IS SUPERIOR TO WORSHIP WITH ATTRIBUTES.

AUTHOR SUGGESTS TO FOLLOW WORSHIP
WITH ATTRIBUTES IN THE BEGINNING & THEN
SWITCH OVER TO WORSHIP WITHOUT
ATTRIBUTES WHEN THE YOGI LOOSES HIS
EGO-FORM,ie.,HE IS ABLE TO CONCENTRATE ON

FORMLESS BRAHMAN, THROUGH AVERSION,DISLIKE,
DISPASSION TOWARDS WORLDLY ENJOYMENTS
& THINGS.

AUTHOR HAS ADDED DAHARAKASHA SAMADHI
ALSO IN THIS CHAPTER,IN THE BEGINNING..

ADI SHANKARACHARYA ON SAGUNA & NIRGUNA
BRAHMAN --

Adi Sankaracharya, while propounding Nirguna Brahman
Upasana, also refers to worship of the Saguna Brahman
in his Brahma Sutra Bhashya. It is shown that the same
fruit of Moksha that is attained through severe penance
and meditation involving sravana, manana and nidhidyasa
on Nirguna Brahman is also attainable to those who
practice Saguna Brahman Upasana, that is, when one
remains devoted to a Krishna, Rama or Siva.

Sri Ramana Maharshi --

Worshipping the formless reality by unthought thought is
the best kind of worship. But when one is not fit for such
formless worship of God, worship of form alone is suitable.
Formless worship is possible only for people who are
devoid of the ego-form. Know that all the worship done by
people who possess the ego-form is only worship of form.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Questioner: What is meant in Hinduism by “Saguna Brahman”
and how is that different from “Nirguna Brahman”

Answer: The term Saguna means “with attributes”. The term
“Saguna Brahman” implies that God has a name and form
and other attributes
. Many Savikalpa Samadhis give rise to
the (living) form of the Ishta Devata. Ishta Devta is one’s
favored way of visualizing the divine. It might be Krishna,
Jesus, Rama, the Goddess or some other Deity of choice.

Nirguna means “without attributes”. The term “Nirguna
Brahman” implies that God as the Absolute has no name
and form or attributes. Nirvikalpa Samadhi reveals the
Nirguna nature of the Self.

SWAMI SIVANANDA TEACHINGS on

NIRGUNA:

In a chapter of Brahma-Sutras which deals with the nature
of qualities of Brahman
, it mentions positive attributes like
'joyful,' 'intelligent,' etc.
, as well as negative attributes like
'measureless,' 'colourless,' etc
. Both kinds of attributes
are referred to the absolute and yet the contemplation of
such a Brahman can be called Nirguna-Upasana or
meditation on condition-less Brahman.
The chief distinction
between the contemplation of the conditioned (Saguna) and
unconditioned (Nirguna) Brahman is that in the former the
devotee looks upon it as really connected with those
attributes, while in the latter, positive and negative qualities
are not viewed as essentially connected with it, but as
suggesting its absolute nature.
Hence, joyful etc., do not
enter into the essence of the contemplated Brahman but
act as a gateway for grasping its true nature. In the
contemplation of the conditioned Brahman, those and
similar other properties form a part of the contemplation.

The term Nirguna does not mean that Brahman is a
negative concept, the Brahman is a non-entity or zero. It
means that the qualities found here in limitation, are found
illimitable in Brahman. It means that the attributes are
Brahman's essential nature or His Svarupa. It means that
Brahman does not possess perishable qualities of matter
like the blue colour of a cloth but possesses all auspicious
qualities (Sarva-Kalyana-Gunas). Brahman is Nirguna-Guni.

Nijaguna Shivayogendra on Gunas of Brahman--

We can decisively tell, this world consisting of
consciousness(chethana) & non-living things(achethana)
are imagined by chidrupa Brahman only.

ISHWARA'S MAIN GUNAS are--
All-knowing(sarvajnathva), All-Lordship(sarveshvarathva),
All-control(sarvaniyanthrathva), All-pervading
(sarvantharyamithva), All-Souls(servathmakathva),
All-powerful(servashaktha).

ISHVARA"S CAPACITY OF LORDSHIP are--
Not-doing(akarthrthva), Doing(karthrthva), Other-Doing
(anytha-karthrthva).

ISHVARA'S FIVE ACTIVITIES are --
Sristi(creation),Sthithi(maintaining), Laya(destruction),
Niyamana(controlling, ruling),
Anupravesha(Ishvara himself became multiple Jivas)

WORSHIP OF BRAHMAN WITH & WITHOUT

ATTRIBUTES

(SAGUNA, NIRGUNA BRAHMOPASANA PRAKARANA)

Parameshwara teaching Shanmuga

'Parameshwara teaching Shanmuga' postings are based on
'Jnana Sindhu' writings of great CHIDANANDA AVADHUTHA
of very high spiritual level based on VEDANTHA
(UPANISHATHS). He had given the copy of the book to the
parents of a future Avadhutha even before the baby was
born, telling parents Goddess will take birth as their son &
to give the book to the boy when he would be twelve
year old, who is destined to become an Avadhutha by name
AJATHA NAGALINGA SWAMY at NAVALAGUNDHA

in north Karnataka.

Shanmukha told Parameshwara --

Shanmukha with folded hands, requested Shankara, Swami !
First please explain characteristics of 'sky of heart'(daharakasha
lakshana) & then worship of Brahman with or without attributes.

Parameshwara told Shanmuka--

My child ! I shall now explain as per your wish, listen attentively.
Just like Arjuna aimed at the target kept above, looking down
at the reflection of target in oil, same way aiming at the tip of
nose, concentrating mind on sky of heart(hridayakasha) is
daharakasha characteristics.

These characteristics as it increases day by day, glow of face
increases, removes feeling of body, he becomes real Shankara
only. All his worries vanish, he becomes Divine Thing, mind
activity & organs become relaxed,in peace, satisfied, they shine
with glow. This Yogi gets merged in bliss & is not aware of
what is going on around him. When he is awake, he is Brahman
only.He becomes Divine Thing while sitting, sleeping, opening
eyes, moves about, carries out all activities forgetting that he is
in a body.

Due to inward concentration, organs become quiet, as a result
how activity of mind can take place ? After Manolaya, all
vasanas(latent impressions) vanish. When sense of taste has
become that of elixir, we don't need another taste, same way
when you have become source of peace & happiness, there
is no use of happiness from organs of senses. When a person
stands in the shadow under a tree, his own shadow vanishes
& he is seen alone, same way, when a yogi becomes fully
Para-Brahman & forgets his body is Daharakasha Samadhi

characteristics.

Characteristics of this samadhi is, that state of happiness
at the end of deep sleep state, beginning of jagrith state
& jagrith, sushupti states will not be there, activities of all
body organs also not being there. A hungry, old bull enters
a agricultural field & starts eating green plants, the way it
likes, lying down & owner of the field beats it or pushes it,
it will continue enjoying eating closing its eyes, same way
organs of the body which have tasted the bliss of this
Samadhi will not be interested in worldly pleasures &
activities.Yogis having enjoyed this Samadhi have become
form of Para-Brahman & shining by self-luminosity.
This
Daharakasha samadhi is not an ordinary thing, this
is the nectar of meaning of vedas, this is the state of
Jivanmuktha. This cannot be achieved by con men or
those who act like yogis.

Shanmukha ! now I shall explain to you Saguna,Nirguna
Upasana of Brahman, please listen & understand it.

There are 2 types of worshipping Brahman--
1) Saguna - with attributes
2) Nirguna - without attributes

Now I shall explain Saguna Upasana.Without this upasana
you will not be able to achieve Raja Yoga.By Saguna
Upasana, you will get Saguna-Liberation & then you will
merge in Brahman. Just as Garuda flies from earth to the
sky in no time, by following Nirguna Upasana you will
suddenly merge with Brahman. There are many types of
Saguna Upasana. Jnanis know them.

The Yogi thinks, his palms, feet, ear, eyes, face, rear part of
chest,shoulders,neck,teeth,head,tongue,salvia,thumb,skull,
hands,hairs,beard,mustache, throat,all limbs & organs,
movement, shape, form, etc., his whole body & all are
Brahman only is Saguna Upasana. This body made up of
five elements,five Pranas, ten indriyas,panchikarana
(mix of proportion of five elements in various combinations
to form body) of body & all are of Athma only is Saguna
Upasana.

My Child ! Yogi by thinking his body etc.,belongs to Athman
only & there is nothing left belonging to him, that Sadhaka
lives in supreme Bliss. This Sadhaka, by thinking he is
separate & Athma wearing body etc.,are separate, talks to
himself(as if one person is talking to another person) "you
sit,sit" & he himself sits.Same way "go","You get up",
"Wash your hands & legs","You eat","Wear this","You see",
"You sing","You take bath",You apply sandal wood paste".
"You meditate","become silent","beg","Play","Run","Drink",
"Pour Sambar","Give advise""Sleep","Get UP',"Get rid off
Pee & Poo" thus thinking he being separate & his body etc.,
belongs to Paramathman & following this way is Saguna
Upasana.

This leads to Sayujya liberation. Yogi who is in
this state achieves Divinity, Paramathman. You should
follow this all the time, then this Yoga gives results & is
called Saguna Upasana - worship with attributes.

Now I shall explain to you, Nirguna Upasana, this is not
suitable for yogis with lust etc.By this Kailasa,Vykunta,
Heaven etc.cannot be achieved as you yourself is
everything.Yogi who is following this worship is carrying
out various activities like -- sitting, standing, eating,
sleeping,singing,talking,wearing,seeing,giving,taking,
buying,drinking,gulping,burping,rolling sideways,
enjoying, everything performed without any feeling of
doership,action,activity, not differentiating them,thinking
himself as all. This is called Nirguna Upasana - worship
without attributes.

In Saguna Upasana- worship with attributes, there is
differentiation.Here in Nirguna Upasana "Sarvam
Brahma mayam Jagath" following this concept, all things
are Athma only, you should understand that.

Reason for this being, Maha Vakya says,"yadyat
paSyati cakshurbhyAm tattad Atmeti bhAvayet

meaning--

"Whatever one sees with the eyes, that he should
look upon as the Self."

"yadyat SRNoti karNAbhyAm tattad Atmeti bhAvayet"-

Whatever one hears with the ears, that he should
look upon as the Self.

"labhate nAsayA yadyat tattad Atmeti bhAvayet" -

Whatever one smells through the nose, that he should
look upon as the Self.
jihvayA yad rasam hyatti tattad Atmeti bhAvayet -

Whatever he eats(tastes) with the tongue, that he
should look upon as the Self.

tvacA yadyat spRSed yogi tattad Atmeti bhAvayet -

Whatever the yogi touches with his skin, that he
should look upon as the Self.

dRshTim jnAnamayIm kRtvaA paSyet brahmamayam
jagat -

With the vision of knowledge, one should see the whole
universe as brahman.

drashTRdarSanadRSyAnAm virAmo yatra vA bhavet,
dRshTiH tatraiva kartavyA na nAsAgrAvalokanI -

One's sight should be fixed on that in which the triad
of seer, seeing and seen ceases (i.e., brahman),
and not on the tip of the nose.

(General information for readers --
As long as the mind is full of desires for worldly objects
and pleasures, that itself is bondage. But when the same
mind is made free from likes and dislikes no desires
spring up, because desires are only the result of likes
and dislikes. When no desires arise, the mind becomes
pure and capable of concentrating on the Self.
Self-Knowledge can arise only in such a pure mind and
not in a mind which is dragged hither and thither by
desires)

By this Upasana(worship),you get real bliss of liberation.
You experience Athma-Sakshathkara.

My child ! for your sake I explained to you both
types of worship. Among these two,if you follow any one,
you can achieve this yoga. First follow with attributes
sagunopasana, then follow worship without attributes
ie,Nirgunopasana. Reason being in Sagunopasana
Dvaitha is there, which leads to difficulties.
Nirgunopasana is superior, hence follow that type of
worship.

For both types of worship results in same liberation.
To achieve these upasanas, resulting liberation you
should have aversion,dislike,dispassion(virakti,vairagya)
to worldly enjoyments & things, there is no other way.
Positive results are achieved by those who are having
aversion,disgust for worldly ways.Without worship
also results are not achieved. When Upasana & Yoga
join together, leads to liberation.

Just as yoga expands, worship also expands. If Yoga
is not there, worship also not there. When a Yogi
achieves this Yoga & worship, he becomes real
Brahman only. He will submerge in ocean of happiness.
This Yogi will not suffer from Thapa thrayas--
three types of difficulties -- adibhauthika (physical),
adideivika(external calamity destined),adimanasika
(worries of mind) & by Self generated happiness
gets immersed, thus Hara told Karthikeya.

On hearing this Karthkeya with folded hands told
Hara, GOD of GODS ! I have a doubt which is --
"a sadhaka with full earnestness & great Bhakti
involved in Yoga & worship, suddenly mind looses
concentration & dies, but he has not achieved yoga,
Karma & Yoga stopped abruptly, so what will be his
fate ?".On hearing this Hara told as follows.

Child ! For a Yogi who could not complete yoga in
a lifetime, has no problem in this world or in other
worlds. If he dies suddenly,he will go to good lokas
(other worlds like kubera loka, sathya loka etc.) &
enjoy the fruits of his action, then he will return to
this world, take birth in a rich family.Otherwise he
may take birth in a family of jnanis(family members
with knowledge of Adhyathma) & by previous birth
samskara(actions,impressions) will continue Yoga
sadhana.(practice)

Baby ! Greatness of Yoga cannot be described,
beyond imagination. That Yogi whose yoga got
discontinued in previous birth, though interested in
actions, will not take birth in low castes & will
continue worship of Brahman, get liberated in next
2 or 3 births due to natural Yoga mahima(greatness).
Good deed of Yoga can never give bad states, his
sins get destroyed by Yoga practice & his doubt
about rebirth vanishes. In olden days a person who
has left his village to visit another place, used to take
2 days to return back, same way for Yogi whose yoga
is interrupted by death, will get liberated within 2 to 3
births only. If yoga is carried out with firm belief,he will
achieve liberation in the same birth. If firm belief is not
there, more births are required.

To develop firm belief, hearing & chanting of Veda
shstras are required. If you say a Yogi has achieved
yoga without reading Veda shastra, that means he has
studied Veda shastra in his previous birth.Without this
background how you can achieve yoga ? One who has
no previous birth experience or impressions of yoga
sadhana, will not catch it now, even after repeating
shstra many times.By following yoga path, such ajnani
also can get liberated earlier & need not under go
hundreds of rebirths. A Yogi is greater than one following
Karmas(actions),Thapas(meditation),jnana(knowledge),
hence you also become a Yogi.Others cannot get
eligibility of a Yogi !
,
My child ! for your sake I have explained to you methods
of worshipping with & without attributes.Understand this
very well & follow it, there is nothing similar to this.
This secret knowledge should not be told to -- thieves,
not following Dharma,no kindness, who argue without
knowledge, has lust for women. This knowledge is
auspicious, doing good, through all Veda Shastras.

This way Shankara explained method of worshipping to
Shanmukha for the benefit of this world.
