Sound is a better medium to reach God than reflecting on His
form.
God's form as conceived by us can be faulty. For example, the
picture of a God portrayed in a calendar or book may reflect
the features of a person who has influenced the thought and
mind of the artist. Often ,there could be an unconscious
resemblance between the face of the artist and the divinity
portrayed. But there is no scope for such distortions when
the devotee chooses the path of naamasmarane to reach God.
When we chant God's name with intense devotion and right
pronunciation, it brings the form and presence of God within
us.

Upavasa and nirahara are ways which the saints follow to attain
God and liberation.
God and liberation.
We have to observe the subtle difference between these two
terms.
Upavasa is a spiritual state a person reaches when he forgets
food and other physical needs.
Nirahara is to consciously negate or refuse food for body and
mind.

Like Adi Shankara, we need to invite Shiva into our minds:
"Oh ancient hunter, destroy my wicked thoughts which roam
like wild animals in my mind."
When Shiva begins to rule our minds, sinful thoughts and
ignorance are burnt to ashes and the soul is illumined.
Let us surrender our senses, mind and soul at His feet, then
Shiva will become ours- Sarvam Shivamayam - is the true
spirit of Shivarathri.

From birth to death, the mind works nonstop. Even during
sleep the mind does not rest.

It is awake in the sub conscious level and instructs several
organs of the body to work.

Activities such as digestion, breathing, blood circulation and
