NIRVANA MANJARY - 'BOUQUET OF LIBERATION' OF SHANKARACHARYA

SHRI BHAGAVATPADA SHANKARACHARYA.

FOR LIBERATION, KNOWLEDGE OF --'WHO AM I' 
SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY KNOWN, WHICH 
SHRI BHAGAVATPADA SHANKARACHARYA HAS 
ENUMERATED IN VARIOUS WAYS, IN VARIOUS KRITIES, 
REVEALING TRUE IDENTITY OF SELF(ATHMA),
WHICH WE SHOULD STUDY REPEATEDLY 
TO ESCAPE FROM THE CLUTCHES OF --'MAYA' 
AND TO REACH THE GOAL.

BOUQUET OF LIBERATION

SLOKA--1

Aham na amaro naiva marthyo na daithyo,
Na Gandharva Yaksha, pisacha prabhedha,
Pumanniva na sthree naiva shanda,
Prakrushta prakasa swaroopa Shivoham. 1

I am neither immortal(Devatha like Indra) nor man nor Asura, 
I am neither Gandarwa nor Yaksha nor ghost nor omens,
I am neither man, nor woman nor eunuch,
Superior by nature of the effulgent entity,

Shiva,I am.  1

SLOKA--2





Aham naiva balo, yuva naïva vrudho,
Na varni, na brahmachari na Grahastha,
Vansdhobhi naham sanyasa dharma,
Jaga jjanma nasaika hethu Shivoham. 2


I am neither a child nor youth nor old man,
I do not belong to a class(caste,social status etc.) 

nor I am bachelor or family man,
I do not sit in the forest nor do I follow the rules of Sanyasa(monk),

Who causes birth and destruction of the worlds,
Shiva,I am.  2 

SLOKA--3





Aham naïvameyasthiro bhoota maya,
Thadaivekshithum maam pradhangaasthupaya,
Samaslishta kayo thryo apyaadhwitheeya,
Sada athindriya sarva roopa shivoham. 3


I am not measurable and am past the concept of illusion,
Even though seen by all as different, I am that which brings 

things together,
Even though attached to the trinity
*, I am that which has no second,
Which is transcending all senses,being all forms

Shiva,I am.  3

SLOKA--4






Aham naiva mantha na gantha na vaktha,
Na kartha, na bhoktha, na muktha asramastha,
Yadaaham mano vruthi bheda swaroopa,
Sthadha sarva vuthi pradheepa, shivoham. 4


I am neither the thinker nor the one who goes nor the one who speaks,
I am neither the doer, nor the one who experiences nor the 

one having liberated stages/ashramas(like grahastha,sanyasa 
etc) of life,
I am one with different roles according to the modes of the mind,
Who is the light in all modes of action,

Shiva,I am.   4

SLOKA--5







Na mey loka yathra pravaha pravruthy,
Rna mey bandhabhuddha dureeha nivurthy,
Pravuthy nivurthasya chithasya vruthy,
Ryathasthanvaham thathswaroopa shivoham. 5


Neither I am that action which flows in the affairs of the world,
Nor I am the wrong selfish thoughts which are due to attachment,
Going forth and cessation are by means of modes of this thinking,
Because still, everyday, the true nature of That.

Shiva,I am.   5

SLOKA--6






Nidhanam yada jnana karyasya karya,
Vina yasya sathvam swatho naiva bhathi,
Yadhyantha madhya antharalantharala,
Prakasathmakam syatha devaham asmi. 6


That which is the end of action, due to activity of ignorance,
Without which existence by itself, indeed,does not shine, 
And those who are trapped between end, middle and middle of middle,
Which is of the nature of Light, 

That, indeed, I am.  6

SLOKA--7






Yathoham na budhir na mey karya sidhi,
Yatho nahamangam na mey linga bhanga
Hrudhakasa varthi, gathanga thrayarthi,
Sada Sachidananda murthy Shivoham. 7


I am not wisdom(intellect) nor completion of tasks,
I am not organs nor the procreative seed,
Remaining in the heart space and am beyond the triads
*(pains) of body,
Ever the embodiment of Being-Consciousness-Bliss**,

Shiva,I am.  7

*Tapa thrayas--Adi-bhouthika, Adi-deivika, Adi-manasika

SLOKA--8






Yadaaseedvilasad vikaram jagadha,
Dwikarasrayam naa dwithyathwath syath,
Mano budhi chithahamakara murthy,
Pravruthiryatha syatha devaham asmi. 8


That by whose manifestation(appearing) this world with changes,
Which is not the support of the changes because 

of there being none second to it,
Because of which there is going forth into the

mode of the forms of mind,intellect,memory and ego*,
That,indeed,I am   8

*Anthakarana--manas,buddhi,chitta and ahankara

SLOKA--9






Yadantharbahirvyapakam nithya shudham,
Yadekam sada sachidananda kandam,
Yatha sthoola sukshma prapanchasya bhanam,
Yathasthat prasoothistha devahamasmi. 9


That which pervades inside and outside,eternal & pure
That which is One,characteristic of Being-Consciousness-Bliss*,
Because of which there is the appearance of gross & subtle universe

Because of which that are given birth,
That, indeed,I am.  9

SLOKA--10






Yadarkendu vidhwat prabha jala maala,
Vilasapadam yathswa bhedhadhi soonyam,
Samastham jagdyasya padathmakam sya,
Dhyatha shakthi bhanam thadevahamasmi. 10


 That which is abode of appearance ,
 Cause of magic like manifestation of Sun,
the Moon and the flashes of Lightening,
That which is devoid of internal and other such differences
That which can cover the entire world by its feet,
Because of which there is manifestation of Shakti(power)

That ,indeed,I am.  10

SLOKA--11






Yatha kala moorthir bhibhethi prakamam,
Yathaschitha budhindriyanam vilasa,
Hari brahma rudrendra chandradheenaam,
Prakaso yatha syatha devahamasmi. 11


Of Which Time and Death are very much afraid,
Which is the reason for the glory of mind, knowledge and senses,
And which is the reason for the shine of Gods like,
Vishnu, Brahma, Shiva, Indra, Chandra and others. 

That indeed I am.  11

SLOKA--12







Yad akasavad sarvagam, Shantha roopam,
Parama jyothiraakara soonyam varenyam,
Yadad antha soonyam param, Shankarakhyam,
Yadanthar vibhavyam, tadhevaha masm.  12 


Who is infinite like the expanse of the sky,
and is peaceful in nature,
Who is extremely effulgent,

Who is without a form,Who does not have end nor beginning,
The supreme called Shankara.
Which is to be comprehended with-in,
That indeed I am.   12

ENDING SLOKA





iti srimat-paramahamsa-parivrajak acharyasya
sri govinda-bhagavat-pujya-pada-sishyasya
srimad shankara-bhagavatah kratau
nirvanamanjari sampurna

Thus of the venerable,glorious,highest renunciate,
wandering recluse and great spiritual teacher
Shri Govinda Bhagvan whose feet are to be worshiped,
The disciple,the venerable glorious Shankara
Bhagavan,(by him)composed,
The Bouquet of Liberation concludes.
